Ultimo Dragon Says His Favorite Opponent Was Dean Malenko, Talks Holding Multiple Titles Simultaneously

Ultimo Dragon recalls some of his fondest memories from his career.

There have been a handful of masked luchadores who have established themselves as a legendary figure in professional wrestling in various locations around the world and one of those masked luchadores is Ultimo Dragon. Ultimo Dragon kick-started his career when he graduated from the New Japan dojo in 1987 and then went on to capture over 20 championships in his career. The former two-time WCW Cruiserweight Champion was a part of the Cruiserweight class that wrestling fans rave about from the 90s. That class included Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman and Juventud Guerrera.

Ultimo Dragon recently competed in Canada in SMASH Wrestling's 'Northern Tournament' and he spoke with SLAM! Sports for an interview. Ultimo shared that he enjoyed wrestling Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and added that Dean Malenko was his favorite opponent.

“I liked wrestling Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho, and I also had great matches with Liger and Hayabusa," he said. “My favorite opponent was Dean Malenko. We had many great matches together. Our best match was at Starrcade 1996," he said.

There was one point during Ultimo Dragon's career that he held ten titles at once. With that feat, Ultimo does not see it as a big deal.

“It was nothing special,” he said.
