Undertaker is again talking about the chemistry he shares with Shawn Michaels and Triple H and what makes the story they told between 2009 and 2012 his favorite work of his career.
The Undertaker's career is now synonymous with Shawn Michaels and Triple H because of Taker's classic Wrestlemania matches with both men, including the last match of Michaels' full-time career as a wrestler. "The Phenom" was also one of the final individuals that Triple H would wrestle in a one-on-one capacity, and Michaels returned to the ring one last time for a match alongside "The Game" against Undertaker and Kane at WWE Crown Jewel in 2018.
Speaking with D-Von Dudley, Undertaker discussed why those matches against Shawn and Hunter meant so much to him later in his career. By that point in his career, "The Deadman" was starting to work exclusively with people younger than he was. Because of this, there were often times when he felt the person he was working with starstruck and intimidated by the task in front of them. However, he didn't have this issue working against the founding members of D-Generation X, making it easier for him to be himself and focus on his character work.
"From early on, we've always just had incredible chemistry together. One of my favorite people to work with was Shawn," he said while discussing the match he had against HBK at WWE WrestleMania 25 in 2009. "What's so cool about [this], and a lot of people don't really realize, at this part of my career, a lot of times, the guys that I'm working with are so intimidated by working with me. A lot of them had kind of grown up already watching me, so they were really intimidated working with me. In this era here, when I got to work against people like Shawn or Triple H, it really freed me up to just be Undertaker, right? Because I didn't have to worry about what they were going to do. I didn't have to think about thinking for them. They knew exactly how to react and how to pace themselves and do these kinds of things. So it just freed me up to just be Undertaker, and they could just be them because they knew I was going to be there for them."
Undertaker would eventually retire in 2020, over a decade after his final singles match with Shawn Michaels. That same year, HBK spoke about wanting Undertaker to find peace outside of WWE. Read his comments here.
These days, Undertaker has found that peace, and while he still makes appearances now and again, believes that it's now time for WWE fans to see less of the stars from his generation. Read his comments on that subject here.
