WWE Championship Changes Hands At 2022 Royal Rumble, Paul Heyman Leaves With Roman Reigns

The Beast and The All Might faced off for the first time at the WWE Royal Rumble.

The bout started with the two men trading suplexes before Lashley took control with two spears. They proceeded to the outside of the ring, where Lashley missed a spear and sent himself through the barricade. Back inside the ring, Brock delivered a series of suplexes before hitting an F5. Unfortunately for him, he inadvertently knocked out the referee.

It was then that Roman Reigns came out and attacked Lesnar. He then asked Paul Heyman for the title, which he obliged, and knocked Lesnar out. Bobby was able to capitalize off of this and cover Brock for the pin and win, capturing the WWE Championship for the second time.

Heyman had been aligned with Roman since SummerSlam 2020, but they slowly started drifting apart when Lesnar returned to WWE this past summer. Roman eventually fired Heyman ahead of his match with Lesnar at WWE Day 1, though Roman didn't end up competing as he was diagnosed with COVID. It was on that night that Brock was thrown into the WWE Championship match and won the belt from Big E.
