Xavier Woods On Potentially Winning WWE Speed Title: This Is The Kickstart That I Need

Xavier Woods says winning the WWE Speed Championship would just be step one.

Xavier Woods earned a title shot on the July 3 episode of WWE Speed, as he beat Nathan Frazer in the semi-finals of the #1 Contender's Tournament. He will challenge reigning champion Andrade for the title on the July 5 episode.

Wade Barrett: Transition To Commentary Has Given Me A Different Appreciation For WWE Creative Team

WWE shared a post-match promo in which Woods explained how winning the title would help him build his legacy.

"You know your boy does not lose in tournaments. I just became the number one contender for the Speed Championship. Some of you might be wondering what that even means. The Speed Championship is another championship that WWE has to offer. You become champion, you make more money. You become champion, that is how you build your legacy. Yes, I am a tag team specialist. Yes, I am a member of the greatest tag team to ever exist in this industry. Yes, but the problem that I’ve had for years, for 11 years, the 11 years that I’ve been on the main roster, is that I have been unable to hold a singles championship. So for me, this is just not a championship to parade around on Twitter, to parade around in the back and show everybody how cool I am. This is a championship that will help me begin to define my legacy. It’s soon about to be the era of Xavier Woods," Woods said.

Woods then took to Twitter/X to comment on his win, as he noted that it was step one towards the Intercontinental Championship and beyond.

Outside of WWE Speed, Woods has been feuding with Karrion Kross in recent weeks. He picked up a win against Kross when they clashed on the July 1 episode of WWE Raw. Kross then attacked Kofi Kingston after the bell.

Fightful will have coverage of WWE Speed as it airs on July 5.
