Zack was not fond of the heartwarming speech.
The master of the "Shankly Gates" Zack Gibson went to distance in the second annual WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament. The finals of the tourney saw Gibson take on former PROGRESS World Champion Travis Banks in a bout that saw Banks suffer the same fate as Gibson's previous opponents--tapping out to the "Shankly Gates".
Before being confronted by the WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne, Gibson addressed the crowd inside of Royal Albert Hall who were not fond of the Liverpool native from the jump. While making an appearance on 'The Anfield Wrap' podcast with Mirror Sport's Neil Docking, Zack Gibson revealed that he was originally asked to give a heartfelt speech to the crowd after winning the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament.
"They had asked me to do a really heartfelt speech at the end. They said, 'Just tell us all what it means to you'. I said, 'I've kind of got this thing in the back of my head that I want to do...' They basically said, 'You know what, you just do what feels right'. So I had that sat in my back pocket for a little while, a rewording of Allez, Allez, Allez, because when the stadiums are bouncing with that song, and the pubs, you can't really describe it. So I wanted to harness that." Gibson said. "Then I threw in my own little bits to show it's not just about Liverpool, it's me with Liverpool. Liverpool [is] growing, we're going back to where we want to be, and it feels like we're both moving along. I wanted to put that over, and obviously, I just wanted to rub it in their noses."
Although Gibson fell short in becoming WWE United Kingdom Champion, the buck does not stop there for the winner of the U.K. Championship tourney as he is one of many talents set for this weekend's NXT U.K. TV tapings in Cambridge, England.
