Zelina Vega was released from WWE in November 2020 after reportedly breaching her contract.
She returned on the July 2 episode of WWE SmackDown and was entered into the Women's Money in the Bank ladder match.
Vega has discussed her relationship with The Rock before as the two connected on "Fighting With My Family" with Vega playing the role of AJ Lee.
Speaking to Ryan Satin on Out of Character, Vega revealed she talked to The Rock hours before her return.
"Even the day I was coming back to WWE, maybe an hour before I went out, I called him and went, 'Hey, I'm nervous. How do I do this, how should I attack this?' He was just giving me some good ideas and it comes from a really good place. I'm thankful for him," she said.
When asked when she knew her return would be happening, she said, "I always say that I don't actually know until it happens. You can know for a week or two and then it's like, 'we're going to move it to here.' I always say, 'I didn't know until my music hit.' You just never know."
On May 13, Fightful Select reported Vega was at the WWE Performance Center filming something.
The full report can be read below:
Zelina Vega, also known as Thea Trinidad was at the WWE Performance Center on Thursday, May 13. We were told it wasn't just a visit, as she was being filmed for some reason there. Zelina left WWE in November when she was fired for not following third party policies. Her husband Aleister Black also hasn't wrestled since her firing, and only recently saw vignettes air for his return after Fightful had reports that he had not been backstage at Smackdown for quite a while.
We're working to learn the context of Zelina's appearance at the WWE PC, but have been told the working plan is for her to return to the company.
In an update since this morning, we're told specifically, Zelina was filmed walking into the WWE Performance Center with Simone Johnson, the daughter of The Rock. We weren't told if this is supplemental footage or if there's a plan behind that specifically. We were also informed that Zelina's return has been in the works for a while.
Addressing the report of her return being spoiled, Vega said, "What made it funny was, at that time, when it came out, I wasn't really back yet. It wasn't really a thing yet. I know they were filming something for [Malakai Black] and that's initially what I was there for. It made it funny because I was like, 'this isn't event 100% yet. They're talking like it is. You don't know the specifics, I can't tell you the specifics, so just shut up. If it's meant to be, it'll be, if it's meant to be.' Why take that away from the fans? That was my biggest issue with stuff like this. Why ruin it and take moments away from the fans that are genuinely going to be a cool moment instead of, 'I got on the internet and heard she was coming back anyways. It's not a big deal.' It's not a huge deal when you already know about it."
Following his release from WWE on June 2, Malakai Black discussed the report. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
Vega is the reigning Queen's Crown winner, having defeated Doudrop in the finals of the tournament.
