Project Spearhead’s efforts to create a union in the UFC have taken another step forward as current UFC fighter Al Iaquinta has joined the group.
It was through Twitter that Project Spearhead made the announcement:
Project Spearhead is proud to announce that Al Iaquinta (@ALIAQUINTA ) has volunteered and will serve as the Association’s Interim Secretary/Treasurer, along with Interim President Leslie Smith (@LeslieSmith_GF ) & Interim VP Kajan Johnson (@IamRagin). #ProjectSpearhead

Iaquinta’s reported role in the organization is going to be that of an interim secretary and interim treasurer.
The fighter now joins fellow UFC fighters Leslie Smith (interim president) and Kajan Johnson (interim vice president), plus labor lawyer Lucas Middlebrook in the organization.
What the organization is attempting to do is to get 150 contracted UFC fighters to sign union cards, which would then allow the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to determine if UFC fighters are either employees or independent contractors.
If the UFC fighters are considered to be employees, a vote would be held by the UFC fighters and if they are in favor of Project Spearhead, a union would then be allowed to form.
There is no word yet on just how many UFC fighters have signed union cards.
