The GFL Commissioner issues a statement.
On April 9, 2025, it was reported that the Global Fight League (GFL) was canceling its inaugural events scheduled for May 24 and 25 in Los Angeles, California.
Now, the League's Commissioner, Darren Owen, has issued a statement on social media citing funding issues as the reason the inaugural events will not be taking place yet. He says he hopes the event will still run when they're able to secure funding.
From Owen:
Unfortunately, we've been forced to postpone our May launch event. Our primary investor was unable to meet their funding commitment.
We are working tirelessly to secure the necessary funding to support a successful launch. Although we anticipate this delay to be short-lived, any athlete may request an immediate release.
We are committed to our mission and will continue to fight forward together. The support from our athletes, coaches, and managers during this time has been truly inspiring.
