A featherweight division attraction pitting UFC Hall Of Fame member BJ Penn and #11 Yair Rodriguez will be headlining UFC Fight Night 101.
Penn (16-10-2) will be competing for the first time in over two years after a self-imposed retirement after a loss to former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar in 2014. Penn has held two championships in the UFC as he is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and a former UFC Welterweight Champion. Penn has not earned a victory in well over six years, his last victory came over former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes at UFC 123, it was the third match in their series.
Rodriguez (9-1-0) is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated Leonardo Morales, Charles Rosa, Dan Hooker, Andre Fili and Alex Caceres. Rodriguez was the featherweight champion on the UFC Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, defeating the aforementioned Leonardo Morales in the finals. Rodrigiez hasn’t been defeated in nearly four years and this will be his second straight UFC main event, the other came at UFC Fight Night 92 earlier this year.
UFC Fight Night 103 takes place on Saturday, January 15 from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona with BJ Penn and Yair Rodriguez headlining the card.
