Charles Oliveira Suspended 60 Days By NYSAC

MMA

Charles Oliveira made a successful lightweight division return at UFC 210, choking out former Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion Will Brooks in the opening round.

However, a post-fight celebration in which Oliveira jumped out of the Octagon to embrace his team has raised the ire of the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).

Following the leap out of the Octagon, the NYSAC has suspended the fighter for a total of 60 days. The now suspended fighter will be able to fight again on June 7 of this year. There will be no financial fine given to Oliveira, just the 60 day suspension.

Oliveira isn’t the only fighter to be on the receiving end of some kind of punishment for jumping out of a cage after an MMA fight.

Bellator MMA Middleweight Champion Rafael Carvalho was fined $5,000 by the Association Of Boxing & Combat Sports (ABC) for jumping out of the cage after defeating Melvin Manhoef by knockout at Bellator 176. Bellator 176 concluded just hours before UFC 210 began, so both fighters got punishedbfor the same illegal action on the very same day.

The only difference is that one fighter (Oliveira) received a suspension and one fighter (Carvalho) received a financial penalty.
