Former professional wrestler turned professional MMA fighter CM Punk, real name is Phil Brooks, made his professional MMA debut at UFC 203, where he was submitted by Mickey Gall in the first round of the fight.
Punk’s future with the UFC has been uncertain as of late, but Punk recently spoke with a Fox affiliate out of Los Angeles, California about his UFC career.
“I am working on it feverishly. I'm throwing names at Dana (White), opponents, dates. I don't know if he's waiting for a Chicago show or what the deal is but if it doesn't happen in the UFC, it will happen somewhere else. I'm dedicated to fighting and training. We'll get there,” Punk says.
Punk’s opponent at UFC 203, Mickey Gall, has competed once since the infamous fight at UFC 203, as he defeated Sage Northcutt by second round submission at UFC On Fox 22 in December 2016. Punk’s most recently appeared the the NHL 2017 All Star Skills Competition, where he officiated a game of musical chairs between NHL mascots, the game was won by the New Jersey Devil.
The UFC isn’t running any events in Chicago, Punk’s hometown, anytime soon, their next two events are taking place in Houston, Texas (UFC Fight Night 104) and Brooklyn, New York (UFC 208).
