Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey hasn’t competed since being demolished by Amanda Nunes at UFC 207.
Edmond Tarverdyan has one request of his longtime pupil and that is for her to return and fight UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.
“That’s the one,” Tarverdyan said on The MMA Hour of the fight. “I want that fight. When I trained Ronda, I knew Ronda could beat Cyborg. I know that. Cyborg is too slow.”
Cyborg recently captured the UFC Women’s Featherweight Title at UFC 214, where she defeated former Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion Tonya Evinger by TKO.
Fightful.com revealed exclusively last month that Rousey had been preparing for a run in pro wrestling.
Despite his want for Rousey to fight the UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion, the coach is unsure if Rousey will go for it.
“I don’t know. We’ll live and we’ll see. If injuries weren't there and everything was where it was, we would take that fight. I’m telling you she’s too slow for us. Ronda will beat her. Ronda needs a challenge that she really needs to be like 'this person is no good and I need to prove something to the whole world.' That’s how Ronda works good. She didn’t have that with Holly, she’s the one that pushed and wanted some aggressiveness before the weigh-ins. This one -- she has it. She said (Cyborg) cheated before, she’s hurt women and she wants to come and beat her.”
If Rousey were to take the fight and win, then she would become the first woman in the UFC to hold two titles in two different weight classes.
