Conor McGregor Says He's Happy Jose Aldo Beat Frankie Edgar

MMA

As the saying goes, "real recognize real." So of course Conor McGregor would be happy that Jose Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar for the UFC Interim Featherweight Championship at UFC 200.

Speaking in the UFC 202 conference call, McGregor spoke about possibly returning to the featherweight division, where McGregor is still the champion, despite Aldo being interim champion.

“Right now we’re 15 days away from a war and I’m ready for a war," McGregor said. "That’s all I’m thinking of now. Let’s have this war. [Nate Diaz]’s been talking about, ‘full camp this, I only had 10 days to prepare. If I didn’t have a full camp he wouldn’t have hit me.' Let’s see what that’s about."

As for Aldo and his win, McGregor said that he felt bad over the way Aldo lost against him at UFC 194 and then took time to throw a few verbal jabs towards Edgar.

"I was happy for Aldo," McGregor said. "When you see a longtime champ like that get knocked down like the way I knocked him out, I said I felt sorry a little bit. And then, on top of that, you see Frankie an they were talking shit and talking a lot. He's still talking shit."

McGregor is set to face Diaz at UFC 202 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 20. The entire conference call can be listened to in the video above.
