One of the most memorable moments of 2016 may have been the disastrous professional MMA and UFC debut of former professional wrestler CM Punk, who was submitted by Mickey Gall at UFC 203.
While the future of the former professional wrestler in the UFC has been cloudy since his debut, UFC President Dana White appeared on UFC Tonight to clear up the situation a little bit.
“Is CM Punk going to be a guy who is going to stay in the UFC and continue to fight? Probably not. But he wanted to try it. I like the guy. I respect the guy. He wanted to fight in the UFC. He wanted to do it. He trained for two years, and he did it,” said White.
Punk is still training at Roufus Sport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with trainer Duke Roufus, but Punk has yet to speak on his next move in the sport, other than to say that he will be back in the cage one day. As for Punk’ opponent from UFC 203, Mickey Gall, he will be fighting at UFC On Fox 22 this December, facing a fellow young prospect in Sage Northcutt.
Punk netted a solid $500,000 for his professional MMA debut and statistics suggest that pay-per-view numbers were up for the event, so he could be a hot commodity for whatever MMA promotion decides to sign the former multi-time WWE World Champion.
