Daniel Cormier hasn't made it much of a secret -- he's a WWE fantatic.
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been a wrestling fan since he was a child. He was a fan of Mid-South Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions. His favorite wrestlers during that time were Junkyard Dog, Sting and Ric Flair.
At last year's Wrestlemania 31, a video surfaced of Cormier losing his mind when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank in the main event of the show against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Rollins pinned Reigns to capture the WWE championship
The ending of last Sunday's Summerslam main event between Lesnar and Randy Orton left people perplexed. Lesnar started landing sharp elbows and punches to Orton. Those shots left Orton gushing blood and Lesnar was declared the winner by TKO. Some people thought it was a shoot finish and wasn't supposed to happen.
The UFC star and Fox Sports commentator breaks down why the finish wasn't perplexing whatsoever.
"I don’t think it was weird," Cormier told Fightful. "I think that the no bleeding rule that the WWE has gotten pretty much rid of blading. The thing about blading is that when guys would do it, it would be a little cut so that they can control the blood. Because there’s no blading, Brock actually had to cut Randy. They just did not know he would bleed like that. These people don’t know when take a bad elbow like Brock had to give him that you suffer that kind of gash. The match ended in the way it was scripted. But, they just no idea that Randy was going to bleed so much. But that was a real elbow Brock gave him. It was nasty."
You know what a Lesnar match will be when he steps into the ring. He will throw knees, some punches, suplexes and an F5. Cormier wishes WWE would let the former UFC heavyweight champion be who he was during his first WWE run.
"Now one thing about Brock is I wish they would let him wrestle more," Cormier said. "He’s such a good professional wrestler. Now he does the knees and suplexes people. That’s essentially a Brock Lesnar match. Let him wrestle, he’s good."
Lesnar made his return to MMA at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt, winning by unanimous decision. Six days after the fight, it came out that Lesnar failed a pre-fight drug test. Four days after that, the UFC announced Lesnar failed his post-fight drug test. Cormier doesn't understand the drug situation but knows what Lesnar is really good at.
"Something came out yesterday that him and Jon’s (Jones) suspensions have already been reduced to one year," Cormier said. "So I don’t necessarily know with Brock. I don’t understand any of that stuff. So, I don’t really have the strongest opinion on it. I think him going back to the WWE, it’s his like to go make money. It’s outside of the UFC, it’s outside of that company. He goes to do what he does and that’s to make money. Brock Lesnar has always been really good at making money."
It is unknown when Cormier will defend his title, but he has made it clear he would like to face Anthony Johnson but Dana White hinted last week he was thinking making a Johnson vs. Jon Jones fight with the winner facing Cormier.
