Former Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion Daniel Straus Involved In Motorcycle Accident

Daniel Straus has fought some of the toughest competitors that Bellator MMA can throw at him, but now the fighter is in a battle of a different kind.

This past Sunday morning (December 17), it was Straus who was involved in a near fatal motorcycle accident in the state of Florida.

Bleacher Report was the first to reveal the news.

According to Straus’ manager in Matt Aptaker, it is far too early to tell just how seriously the former featherweight champion was injured.

"It's just too early to tell," Aptaker said.

Straus does have full movement in his arm and legs, plus he can speak, but the fighter has no recollection of what lead to the accident or of the accident itself.

The former Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion did provide the following statement on the accident to Bleacher Report:

"On early Sunday morning, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. I'm currently recovering and will hopefully be returning to the Bellator cage sometime soon. I appreciate all the well wishes and ask that people respect my family's privacy during this difficult time."

While the fighter has had a tough time in the cage as of late, it hasn’t always been that way for him. Straus is a former two-time Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion, defeating Patricion Freire and Pat Curran to start those reigns. Straus just competed at few months back at Bellator 184 and he suffered a third round submission loss to Emmanuel Sanchez.
