No Such Luck, Wonderboy: Georges St-Pierre Up For Return Fight With Tyron Woodley

MMA

After Tyron Woodley slayed the demon Robble Lawler at UFC 201, he wasted no time at the post-fight press calling out exactly who he wanted.

Woodley told number one contender, Stephen Thompson, to his face that he wasn't interested in a fight with him in November at Madison Square Garden. Sorry, Karate Kid, the new Welterweight champion has his eyes on a "money fight" with Nick Diaz or Georges St-Pierre. Woodley said he'd been in the game and stayed away from his family too long, but now their is money to be made in the sport and he wants some of it.

Yesterday, MMAFighting.com reached out to St-Pierre and comfirmed that arguably the best UFC Welterweight of all time was interested in the match-up for his return.

When contacted by MMAFighting.com on Sunday about whether he would be interested in fighting Woodley, St-Pierre replied, via text message, "Yes." Asked again whether he wanted the fight, St-Pierre replied, "Yes."

Originally, it seemed Diaz was the fight Woodley wanted more, but after a Diaz TMZ interview it seemed less likely. Diaz trashed the belt and, in classic Stockton bad boy fashion, said it was he who'd be calling the shots. Woodley was quick to respond as well to TMZ calling Diaz an "idiot" and saying that a fight with St-Pierre is closer anyway

"Georges St-Pierre beat [Nick Diaz], took him down, controlled him. Georges St-Pierre doesn't have the power I possess. He don't have the ability to close that gap as we saw in my last fight," Woodley said. "Either one of those fights make sense to me. Their both tough opponents, they know I'm no walk in the park. I'm just trying to get paid, I'm going to be straight up. Actually, I think tthe Georges St-Pierre fight is a little bit closer than Nick Diaz's fight".

St-Pierre has long teased a return, so don't hold your breath, but with the booking the UFC has done lately it wouldn't be a surpise if the fight was made. If UFC 200 is any indication, the UFC will do anything to make an event historic so keep an eye on how the MSG card comes together.
