Invicta Fighting Championships Flyweight Champion Jennifer Maia is apparently on the verge of signing a multi-fight contract with the UFC. Maia had been offered a late notice fight once before in the UFC, but turned it down because she had just fought a few weeks earlier at an Invicta FC event.
Maia revealed this information about a potential UFC deal in a recent interview with MMA Fighting.
”There’s nothing done yet,” she said. “But we’re waiting for good news to at least sign the (UFC) contract.”
The Brazilian won the Invicta FC Flyweight Title by defeating Vanessa Porto by decision at Invicta FC 16 and she has already defended the strap twice.
Valentina Shevchenko is the opponent Maia would like to fight in the potential UFC debut, but the champion would battle whomever the promotion puts in front of her.
”Right now, I don’t choose. Whoever they offer me, I’d say yes. I got back to training a while ago and I don’t choose (opponents). I’ll fight whoever is in front of me. I think that Valentina will have her post-fight recovery now, but I’d definitely accept to fight her or any other opponent they want,” says Maia.
Three of the four losses Maia has suffered as a pro came to UFC veterans, with that trio of UFC veterans being Sheila Gaff, Leslie Smith and DeAnna Bennett.
