Jon Jones recaptured the UFC Light Heavyweight Title when he defeated Daniel Cormier by third round knockout in the main event of UFC 214.
The new champion has called out former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar before and Jones believes a bout against Lesnar in a winnable one.
“I just think it’s a winnable matchup,” Jones said at the UFC 214 post-fight press conference. “Obviously Brock Lesnar has millions of followers outside of MMA, so that’s huge for our sport, to kind of steal some of those followers. And I feel like Brock, he has a pretty limited game, and I just think it’s a winnable fight and there’s just so much reward that’s involved. I just want to do it.”
Lesnar hasn’t competed since a no contest against Mark Hunt at UFC 200, the former heavyweight champion would fail two drug tests after the event and also announce his retirement.
Despite having issued one warning to Jones before and now the former heavyweight champion has another warning to give.
“Be careful what you wish for, young man,” Lesnar said to The Associated Press.
There may be a few hurdles that could interfere with a potential bout between Jones and Lesnar, most notable of those being that Lesnar has a suspension to serve for the aforementioned failed drug tests and the former heavyweight champion has to re-enter the drug testing pool with USADA.
