Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to face Tony Ferguson for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title at UFC 209, but then pulled out of the fight due to issues with his weight cut.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto took to Twitter to update the fans on the status of Nurmagomedov:
Per his manager, Khabib Nurmagomedov has visited physicians, health is "good." Ramadan starts end of May. Looking for title fight Aug/Sept.

The Twitter post by Okamoto stated that Nurmagomedov will be looking for a title shot once he returns to action this Summer. However, it doesn’t state whether Nurmagomedov wants to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor or fight somebody for the interim lightweight title. Due to his religion, Nurmagomedov won't be competing until late summer.
Tony Ferguson said he would be willing to fight Nurmagomedov again, as long as certain requirements were met for the fight. While UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is currently pursuing a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Nurmagomedov last competed at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden, where he defeated Michael Johnson by third round submission.
