Kurt Angle made his triumphant return to a WWE ring at WWE Tables, Ladders, and Chairs. The current Raw general manager teamed with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat The Miz, The Bar, Braun Strowman, and Kane.
It was previously thought that the 1996 gold medalist would never compete in a WWE ring again following his 2006 departure and health concerns over the years. But, thanks to viral meningitis, Angle was cleared to replace Roman Reigns in Sunday’s main event.
This turn of events pleased SmackDown Live general manager Daniel Bryan.
Bryan, who retired in February 2016 following concussion concerns, has been itching to get back into the ring ever since. His medical issues and the fact that WWE won’t clear him for competition have been a long-running story on SmackDown Live.
It started last year, when The Miz turned in an epic rant on Talking Smack that had Bryan walking off set in anger. Miz has continued to mock Bryan in the ring, performing his signature moves and taunts. Recently, Kevin Owens has been throwing cheap shots at his on-screen boss over his inability to wrestle.
Bryan’s WWE contract is set to expire on Sept. 28, 2018. The former WWE champion has already teased a possible return to Ring of Honor and a match with current ROH champion Cody Rhodes.
