Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio Rua has suffered an undisclosed injury and has been pulled from the main event of UFC Fight Night Japan, where he was set to face Ovince St. Preux in a rematch.
MMA Today was the first to report the story.
There is no word yet on what the precise injury Rua suffered is, neither Rua or the UFC have commented on the situation.
The report also says that OSP is expected the remain on the card and in the main event against an opponent to be announced early next week.
St. Preux (20-10-0) has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Marcos Rogerio De Lima at UFC Fight Night 108. St. Preux is also going to be looking to put his first winning streak together in over two years, but his last streak lasted for only two fights. St. Preux has previously challenged for the UFC Interim Light Heavyweight Title, losing to then champion Jon Jones at UFC 197.
UFC Fight Night: Japan takes place on Friday, September 22 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan with Mauricio Rua and Ovince St. Preux headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event which airs live on FXX.
Update: Yushin Okami is going to be returning to the UFC after an extended absence and stint in the World Series Of Fighting. Okami previously fought as a middleweight in the UFC and challenged then champion Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight Title.
