Aleksandar Rakic is the number one contender as far as he is concerned.
Aleksandar Rakic competed in the main event of UFC Vegas 8, defeating Anthony Smith by unanimous decision.A victorious Rakic is ready to take the next step in his professional MMA career and that step could be a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.
“I made a great performance tonight and I think I’m next for the title, but if the UFC want to see me in a five-round fight, they can do it,” he said after the event (via Simon Head & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “I was preparing for a three-round fight, but I could go another two rounds with no problems, so I was ready for five. Can you imagine (a fight) with me getting ready for a five-round fight at this pace? It’s going to be amazing.”
The UFC light heavyweight title is currently vacant but Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowic will battle for it in the co-main event of UFC 253. Rakic is also willing to face other challenges if a title shot isn’t offered, but he will wait to see what the UFC does next.
“We’re going to see what the UFC has planned for me next,” he said. “I’m gonna be ready, it’s getting very interesting right now. Jan-Reyes, Thiago-Glover. We’re gonna see what happens.”
There is only one fighter ahead of Rakic in the UFC light heavyweight division rankings, no. 6 Jiri Prochazka, that has yet to receive a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.
