Welterweight fighters Alex Oliveira and Yancy Medeiros competed in one of the greatest fights of the year at UFC 218.
Despite being in such a great fight, it was Oliveira who fell to Medeiros via third round TKO.
The Brazilian did suffer a plethora of damage to his nose in that fight, which now requires surgery to repair. Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting got word from Oliveira’s coach that the fighter could be getting surgery shortly:
Alex Oliveira's coach Andre Tadeu tells me it's still unclear if Cowboy will need nose surgery after the UFC 218 war with Yancy Medeiros. Decision will be made next week. pic.twitter.com/T3ZiqyIHkt

Since the initial tweet from Cruz, MMA Fighting has stated that the fighter is getting surgery on Thursday, December 21 and there is no word on just how long Oliveira is going to be out of action.
However, more should be learned about his future in the Octagon once the surgery is complete and the healing begins.
Oliveira has a 7-3-0-1NC record under the UFC banner and the loss to Medeiros was the first time the fighter was defeated via KO/TKO.
