UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, and interim champ, Yair Rodríguez are scheduled to meet in a title unification bout at UFC 290 on July 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Journalist Ariel Helwani was the first to report the news of the matchup being in the works via a tweet on Thursday, although the promotion itself has yet to officially confirm anything regarding the booking or event. Volkanovski is 12-1 in his 13 promotional appearances and will look to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, back at UFC 284 in February. Rodríguez on the other hand is 4-1-1 in his last six fights and is coming off a second-round submission win over Josh Emmett also at UFC 284 back in February.
