The Lioness has called it a career.
Following her dominant unanimous decision victory over Irene Aldana at UFC 289, Amanda Nunes announced her retirement from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
Nunes will get to do what most legends of the sport aren't able to do, and that's go out on top. The future first ballot UFC Hall of Famer will leave the sport as the UFC's Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion, to cap off a otherworldly resumé that hasn't been, and may never will be rivaled by another female combatant.
Entering the UFC in the summer of 2013, Nunes didn't take long to shape the foundation of what would end up being a decade long of dominance in the world's top MMA promotion, securing the UFC's bantamweight title on two occasions, as well as going out with the promotion's 145-pound belt in the female decision. Holding nine victories over current and former UFC champions, coupled with an unheard of 12-1 record in title fights, Nunes will surely headline the UFC Hall of Fame class in the summer of 2024 during the company's famous International Fight Week festivities. However, due to her massive stardom and legendary status, the promotion may very well expedite her status as the far and away greatest female fighter of all-time by having her honored at this year's IFW event, next month.
The 35-year-old double champion's accomplishments can be found below:
- 16-2 record in the UFC.
- 12-1 record in title fights.
- 8 successful title defenses.
- Holds victories over current and former champions, Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko (twice), Germaine de Randamie (twice), Julianna Pena, Meisha Tate, and Holly Holm.
