Former unified heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr. is set to take on two-time WBC heavyweight title challenger, Luis Ortiz, on September 4 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
ESPN's Mike Coppinger was the first to report the news of the matchup being in the works, although no official announcement has yet been made regarding the bout. Ruiz Jr. became the first Mexican heavyweight champion in June 2019 when he upset former unified champ, Anthony Joshua, via a seventh-round TKO victory. He's 34-2 overall as a pro and will look to build on a unanimous decision win over Chris Arreola last May in his latest outing. Meanwhile, Ortiz is riding a two-fight winning streak and is coming off a sixth-round TKO victory over former IBF heavyweight champion, Charles Martin, back in January.
