The main event is set for the first CES MMA card of 2019 as Tony Gravely defends the gold against Kris Moutinho.
Gravely (16-5-0) is going to be making the first title defense of his reign, which began with a victory over Kody Nordby at CES MMA 53. Gravely is also a former King Of the Cage Bantamweight Champion, defeating Drako Rodriguez to win the gold in September of this year. Gravely fought a total of five times in 2018, picking up four wins in that time, with the last coming in November.
Moutinho (7-2-0) will enter the contest on the strength of a three fight winning streak, having defeated the trio of Alfred Jones, Da’Mon Blackshear and James Quigg. Moutinho has suffered just two losses as a professional MMA fighter, with both of them coming by way of submission. Moutinho has competed exclusively in CES MMA for his entire professional MMA career, which began in September of 2016.
Also on the card, UFC veteran Eric Spicely is competing against Stephen Regmen in a middleweight division affair.
A short time after the above story came out, a report from MMA Junkie stated that a lightweight title bout between champion Nate Andrews and challenger Bryce Logan will headline.
CES MMA 54 takes place on Saturday, January 19 from the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island with Nate Andrews and Bryce Logan headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on AXS TV.
