Benito Lopez Fined $1,000 For UFC Fight Night Fresno Weigh-In Physicality

MMA

Benito Lopez is competing at tonight’s UFC Fight Night Fresno event against Albert Morales, the fight will kick off the main card.

However, win or lose, the fighter will leave the event $1,000 poorer after an altercation with Morales at the UFC Fight Night Fresno weigh-ins.

During the staredown after both fighters made weight, it was Lopez who got physical with his opponent by pushing him. Morales was not fined because he didn’t make any contact with Lopez before or after the push.

Unlike when a fighter misses weight for a bout, the $1,000 from Lopez will go directly to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) instead of the opponent.

Lopez, who makes $10,000 of show money, now loses at least ten percent of that money, but could easily make it up by winning the bout and doubling the paycheck.

While the CSAC has made their ruling on the matter, the UFC has yet to comment on the situation in any way.

UFC Fight Night Fresno takes place tonight from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California with Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
