Pat Barry is best known for his UFC career, but also seems to be one of the few people Brock Lesnar can stand.
However, an alcohol and substance abuse issue led to Lesnar booting Barry from his UFC 200 camp last year, a story Barry told to MMA Fighting.
"One night I came up with an excuse to get a drink. I'm going to get a pizza. There's four people in this bar... one of them got out of hand, buying more drinks. He probably wasn't getting out of hand, he's just buying everybody drinks. Then everybody's drunk and the pizza comes out and he wants the pizza, but I can't give you the pizza. Almost a fight breaks out," said Barry.
Barry said that the cops were called, and when he left was pulled over and jailed.
"That was the moment, I realized, I can’t get out of this cell if they don’t let me out, I can’t get out. Me, ‘Gorilla Pat,’ I can’t physically break out. I can’t talk my way out. The one person I called hung the phone up, and didn’t answer, Rose (Namajunas), was disappointed. I figured out this doesn’t need to go any further. I realized, sh–t needs to change and sh–t needs to change now," Barry said.
When Barry was released, Lesnar kicked him out of camp and told him to go home. Lesnar would go on to win his UFC 200 fight before it was overturned due to a series of failed drug tests.
Barry is scheduled to compete in a kickboxing fight with MMA gloves against Bellator veteran Eric Prindle at Mixed Striking Championships 4 on November 18.
