Bryce Mitchell scored a unanimous decision win over Andre Fili in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 12, but that victory didn’t come without its consequences.
A victorious Mitchell says he broke his hand in the opening round of the fight.
“I broke my hand in the first round and kept swinging with it,” Mitchell said at the UFC Vegas 12 post-fight news conference (via Danny Segura of MMA Junkie). “I was like, ‘The hell with it. I’m going to keep throwing it.’ I knew something was wrong with my hand and I just envisioned myself doing better. I think it was on an overhand left (when I broke it).”
If there is a silver lining to the whole scenario, it was that Mitchell fought for the first time with his custom made camo shorts from Reebok.
There is no word yet on how long Mitchell will be out of action for, but the fighter believes he could be out for a “little while.”
“I’m going to have to take a little while off,” Mitchell said. “I don’t got no choice. You won’t see me in here for a little while. I’m going to heal up the best I can and come back the strongest I can.”
