Chael Sonnen Calls Potential Chuck Liddell Fight A Dead Issue

Chael Sonnen and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell were rumored to be in negotiations for a fight in the last few months.

If Sonnen is to be believed, he doesn't see the fight going down, despite angling for it for several months.

“Nothing. Dead issue. I thought that Chuck was coming back,” Sonnen said to MMA Fighting. “I had good reason to believe that. He lost his job. He said he wanted to come back, then he went into the gym. This was my evidence. But I had these three pieces of evidence.”

Sonnen is now moving onto the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix and he meets former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the first round at Bellator 192.

Just because the fight is a dead issue doesn’t mean Sonnen won’t take a few parting shots at his one time potential opponent.

“It’s not easy to be Chuck. You’re broke, you snorted all your money away. It’s not an easy life to live. I don’t need me to kick him while he’s down, either. If he wanted to come back, we could agree to a match and then maybe things would be different. But I think in this setting, I wish him well,” says Sonnen.

Bellator 192 takes place on Saturday, January 20 from The Forum in Inglewood, California with Douglas Lima and Rory MacDonald headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
