Charles Oliveira returned to the lightweight division at UFC 210 and promptly submitted former Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion Will Brooks in round one.
Despite a dominant return to the lightweight ranks, the fighter has plans on returning to the featherweight realm.
“I weighed in lower to show I belong to the lower division, not the upper one,” Oliveira said after the event. “I had a great fight tonight, but I want to go back to 145. I trained very hard for this fight. Harder than ever. (There were) many emotions, with my daughter on the way. (I did) great work, but I want to go back to 145, where I want to be champion.”
Oliveira is ranked #9 in the featherweight division, but is unranked in the lightweight division.
The fighter also believes that his new training team will help him make weight for future featherweight bouts.
“It’s not hard (for me),” Oliveira said. “I think when we have the right team, and with people doing the correct job, you’re able to make it happen. That’s it”
In his last run at featherweight, Oliveira won a total of six fights, but he also missed weight a total of four times.
