A middleweight division clash is the latest addition to the upcoming Bellator 189 card as Chidi Njokuani is in action against Hisaki Kato.
CBS Sports first reported the fight.
Njokuani (17-5-0-1NC) is making his Bellator MMA Middleweight Division debut in this fight, with all of his previous fights in the promotion coming at welterweight. Njokuani has won four of five fights under the Bellator MMA banner, defeating Ricky Rainey, Thiago Goncalves, Andre Fialho and Melvin Guillard. Njokuani’s lone loss in the promotion came to former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 182. Njokouani is forced to the division after having repeated trouble making Welterweight.
Kato (8-2-0) enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a win over Ralek Gracie at Bellator 170. Kato has also competed once in the Rizin promotion out of Japan, defeating Yuta Watanabe by TKO at Rizin 1 in April of 2016. Kato also competed a total of five times in the Heat promotion, with none of his fights in that company going past the second round.
Bellator 189 takes place on Friday, December 1 from the Winstar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma with Julia Budd and Arlene Blencowe headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
