Cody Garbrandt Wants To Return At UFC 217

MMA

UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt has been injured and out of action since he defeated Dominick Cruz for the belt at UFC 207.

When the bantamweight does make his Octagon return, then he would like it to take place this November at UFC 217.

“I want MSG,” he wrote via text message to MMA Fighting.

Garbrandt was originally set to defend his championship against former bantamweight title holder TJ Dillashaw at UFC 213, but pulled out of the fight due to a back injury.

While Garbrandt has been recovering from the back injury, the bantamweight champion hasn’t been doing a lot of MMA training during his time off.

“Feeling a lot better,” he stated in a text message. “Hardly doing MMA. It’s been all rehab and strength and conditioning. I can’t wait to get back.”

There is no word yet on who Garbrandt would be defending the belt against, as his previously canceled bout with Dillashaw has yet to be rescheduled.

If the fight were to get booked for UFC 217, then it would be the third title fight on the card because Michael Bisping is defending the middleweight title against Georges St. Pierre and Joanna Jedrzejczyk is defending the women’s strawweight title against Rose Namajunas.

UFC 217 takes place on Saturday, November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Michael Bisping and Georges St.Pierre headlining. Fightful id providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
