Colby Covington and former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos battle for the vacant UFC Interim Welterweight Title in the co-main event of UFC 225.
Tyron Woodley is the current UFC Welterweight Champion and Covington wants to see the promotion strip the title from him.
“To be honest I’m not that confident about it. He’s been running from me from the gate. We were supposed to fight December last year. He said he could fight Nate Diaz, but all of a sudden when he got presented me he got hurt again,” Covington said during the UFC 225 media conference call. “I don’t know, he’s been acting, he’s on TMZ. He needs to come back and fight but he’s probably gonna run to Hollywood. He needs to vacate the belt for me.”
Woodley has been out of action due to getting shoulder surgery and hasn’t been in action since defending the gold against Demian Maia at UFC 214.
Covington doesn’t even think the UFC Welterweight Champion wants to even fight anymore, never the less defend the title.
“To be honest, I don’t think so,” Covington said. “The guy he comes out in the media and will say something on his social media to make headlines. The guy doesn’t want to fight. He’s a fake, he’s a fraud.…He doesn’t want to fight anymore.”
UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
