Conor McGregor Switching Up Training For Nate Diaz Re-Match, Coach Says

If Conor McGregor's coach is to be believed, we'll be seeing a different McGregor at UFC 202, and training could play a huge role.

McGregor's trainer John Kavanagh appeared on ESPN's Five Rounds podcast and noted that things have been much different for the UFC Featherweight Champion's camp for UFC 202 is much different than for previous fights. (Transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow.)

"If I was to sum it up, there's order to this training camp," Kavanagh said. "There's no chaos. Everything is very disciplined, very military style. Beforehand, it was kind of done on Conor's whim, how he felt on a certain day.

One could say that McGregor's UFC 196 performance reflected that chaos, something that Kavangh said is being remedied.

"This training camp has been based on cycles," Kavanagh said. "Every day, we start at 1 p.m. sharp. In the evenings, we do cardio training. Everything is measured, nothing is left to 'How you feeling?' We have a performance doctor taking care of the performance side of things, I'm taking care of the fighting side of things, everybody is working together and nothing we've done before comes close to comparison for this one."

Conor McGregor will face Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 on August 20 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
