CSAC Changed UFC Fight Night Fresno Bout From Flyweight To Bantamweight Fight

Tonight’s UFC Fight Night Fresno card was supposed to see Carls John De Tomas and Alex Perez battle in a flyweight division affair.

However, due to De Tomas missing weight in his last bout, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has changed the bout against Perez to a bantamweight division encounter.

“It was a collaborative effort, as it always has been with the California commission,” UFC Vice President Of Athlete Health & Performance Jeff Novitzky told MMA Junkie. “They are definitely on top of this issue more than any other commission, and we all felt this was in the best interest of the athletes.”

De Tomas did make weight for tonight’s bout at a crisp 135.8 pounds, while Perez came in at 135 pounds.

CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster says that concerns about De Tomas’ weight this week is what lead to the decision being made.

“Based on the progression of his weight leading up to this week, (CSAC Executive Director) Andy Foster expressed some concerns, and we came together to make this decision,” Novitzky said.

Alex Perez would go on to secure a victory via a D'arce choke. You can see our full coverage at this link, and our post show podcast at this link.
