Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from professional MMA competition after defeating Justin Gaethje via second round submission in the main event of UFC 254, but if Dana White has his way, a retired Nurmagomedov will return to MMA competition.
White says he has a meeting set with Nurmagomedov soon to discuss the fighter’s future in MMA.
"I'm giving Khabib some time to think this over, and he and I are going to get together and meet soon, so we'll talk,” White said at the UFC 255 post-fight press conference (via Shaheen Al-Shatti of The Athletic).
Nurmagomedov retired with a professional MMA record of 29-0-0, but had stated in the past the he wanted to make it to 30-0-0 before hanging up the gloves. There are currently no plans in place for Nurmagomedov to be stripped of the lightweight title or for the promotion to crown an interim lightweight champion.
