Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor suffered a fourth round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.
While McGregor hasn’t spoken much about what his fighting future holds, a clue may have been given by UFC President Dana White.
“Conor and I talked for an hour last week,” said White at the UFC 230 post-fight press conference. “Typical Conor. ‘I would love an immediate rematch. I want to fight him again but I’ll fight whoever I gotta fight to get back to him if that’s not the case.’”
McGregor is currently ranked #2 in the UFC Lightweight Division top fifteen, with former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson being the only fighter ranked ahead of him.
The only problem for McGregor is that the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) may punish McGregor and Nurmagomedov for the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
“We’re on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s time now,” White said. “We’re waiting until November or December - whenever that thing is - and then when that thing plays out we’ll know where we sit, then we’ll know what’s next.”
Nurmagomedov has faced the most punishment for the brawl at this time, losing half his fight purse and getting a ten day suspension, while McGregor has just gotten a similar ten day suspension at this point.
