Tony Ferguson is scheduled to face Charles Oliveira next month at UFC 256 instead of Michael Chandler and UFC President Dana White knows why.
White, during the UFC 255 post-fight press conference, revealed that due to Chandler cutting weight as the backup for the UFC 254 main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje, it left him unable to accept the fight for UFC 256.
Dana White says that because Michael Chandler made weight in Abu Dhabi that he wasn't ready to take a fight in December and that's why Tony Ferguson vs. Charles Oliveira got booked.

Chandler’s loss is Oliveira’s gain, as the bout against Ferguson is arguably the biggest of Oliveira’s professional MMA career. There is no word yet on when Chandler will make his UFC debut, but the fighter has hinted on social media at competing in early 2021.
