UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson suffered a knee injury and he has been pulled from UFC 223, replacing him against Khabib Nurmagomedov is UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway.
The potential bout between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has been canned four times now, which has led UFC President Dana White to say the promotion won’t attempt to put them both together for a fifth time.
“Hell no,” White said to ESPN. “I’m never making that fight ever again. Ever.”
In the previous four fights that were canned, it was Ferguson’s fault for two of them and Nurmagomedov’s fault for the other two.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is Khabib’s father and his disagrees with the UFC President, saying that Khabib will get a shot against Ferguson again.
“As long as Ferguson is able to walk, we’ll demand this fight. We’re ready to fight with him any time and under any circumstances. We’re wishing him to get well, and waiting for him,” Nurmagomedov said to TASS.ru.
UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
