UFC President Dana White teased a few weeks back that the longtime MMA promotion may venture into professional boxing.
That tease has become a reality and the UFC President says he is currently in the process of obtaining a promoter's license for boxing events.
“I am getting into boxing, 100 percent,” White said to the LA Times. "I’m not leaving the UFC. I’m getting into boxing with [WME/IMG head] Ari [Emanuel] and the UFC will be doing boxing, too. It’s still early. We’re still working on it. I’ve got to get my [stuff] together, but I’m getting into boxing, man. It’s coming.”
White already has his own promoters license for MMA events, specifically the Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series cards.
The UFC President is also predicting that he and the UFC will do a better job at boxing than everybody else out there.
“I just know how good we are at what we do, and I know we’re better than pretty much everybody else out there,” White said. “I think that the guys who are involved in boxing, the fighters, would enjoy being under this umbrella and fighting for us, and yeah, I do think would could do it better than everybody else does.”
There is no word at this time when the boxing promotion will debut or who will fight on the cards.
