David Benavidez Targeting Showdown With Canelo Álvarez Next: "He Needs These Fights"

Undefeated interim WBC super middleweight champion, David Benavidez, has his sights set on a matchup with current undisputed super middleweight champ, Canelo Álvarez.

Benavidez spoke with reporters during the post-fight press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend, following his unanimous decision victory over former IBF super middleweight champion, Caleb Plant, and explained why he believes Canelo needs to give him the opportunity to be the next challenger to take his four belts at 168-pounds.

“I feel like Canelo Álvarez, he needs these fights, a big fighter like me," Benavidez said (h/t Bad Left Hook). "This is a really big fight, as you can see me and Caleb Plant was a huge fight, so I think it would do huge PPV numbers. Let’s just take it back to fighting, man. I want to prove myself. Canelo’s proved himself but I feel like he needs to give me the opportunity too. And it’s not like I’m begging for something, I’ve been mandatory for the past two fights. So it’s something I’ve earned, especially after this fight."
