Demetrious Johnson Wants To Fight TJ Dillashaw This July

It would appear that the long rumored super fight between UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson and UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw could finally be coming together.

Johnson is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, but is open to fighting the bantamweight champion this July.

“Recovery is going good,” Johnson said during a MetroPCS Q&A. “I had rotator cuff (surgery), labrum and joint clean-out. After 11 title defenses and 12 championship fights, the old dog needs to get some rehab. I got it cleaned up. (With) six weeks recovery, we can get strong again, and hopefully T.J. Dillashaw can get this match done. Hopefully July, International Fight Week, on a big, big card.”

The two were linked together before, but Johnson opted to face Ray Borg at UFC 216 instead of fighting Dillashaw.

Dillashaw wasn’t the bantamweight champion the first time to two were rumored to fight, as he just won the title by defeating Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217.

There are no events announced yet for the UFC in July, but that could change anytime now. If the fight finally does come together, it would be Dillashaw dropping ten pounds to face Johnson for the flyweight gold.
