Diego Sanchez last competed on the preliminary card of UFC 235, defeating Mickey Gall by second round TKO.
After the fight, a victorious Sanchez would call out Demian Maia for a future fight, which is a challenge that the Brazilian accepts.
”I have a lot of respect for Diego, he is a warrior, and like I said on my Twitter, you can never underestimate experience,” Maia said to MMA Fighting. “I really thought it was nice to see him go against the odds and get the win. It’s not easy to be competing at a high level for so long, it’s a tough game, and he deserves a lot of recognition. So, I would be honored to compete against him, after all the history we both have in the sport. Why not?”
Sanchez, upon hearing that Maia is up for the challenge, would post the following on Instagram:
There is no word on when the potential fight could happen, but Sanchez would enter the contest on a two bout winning streak, while Maia has won just one of his last four.
