Demian Maia is challenging for the UFC Welterweight Title against champion Tyron Woodley in the co-main event of UFC 214.
Even though the Brazilian is having a shorter training camp heading into the event, it isn’t something that concerns him at all.
“The bad side is that we’re used to one kind of training camp, and this is the shortest camp I’ve ever since I first started in the UFC, and it just so happens to be the most important of my 25 fights. But we took the fight because we want to be champions,” Maia told AG Fight.
Maia has previously challenged for the UFC Middleweight Title, but this is his first attempt at the UFC Welterweight Title.
Despite the shorter camp, the title challenger and training partners are doing their best to make sure he’s a 100% by fight time.
“We have to look forward, work and do our best to be 100% when the time comes. There’s nothing to be sorry about, now. We already cried a little bit among ourselves. We didn’t talk to the press about it because we didn’t see a reason to,” says Maia.
UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
