Douglas Lima is the current Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion and for the next six fights or two years, whichever comes first, is a member of the Bellator MMA roster.
Lima has signed a new deal with the promotion coming off of a successful title defense against UFC veteran Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 180.
The fighter is expected to make his next title defense against another UFC veteran in Rory MacDonald, but MacDonald isn’t expected to compete again until 2018.
After re-signing with the promotion he has called home since 2011, the welterweight champion is excited to watch the promotion grow.
"Bellator is my home, I am excited to continue growing alongside the company," Lima said to MMA Fighting.
During his six-plus years in the Viacom-owned promotion, the welterweight champion has earned some big wins over UFC veteran Ben Saunders, former WSOF Welterweight Champion Steve Carl, Rick Hawn, Paul Daley, former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Andrey Koreshkov and the aforementioned Lorenz Larkin.
While Lima is currently enjoying his second reign as the Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion, the fighters first reign started when he defeated Rick Hawn at Bellator 117. The champion would lose his title the first time during his first title defense against Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 140.
