Exclusive: Patricio 'Pitbull' Didn't Want Fight At 155 Pounds, May Drop To 135

MMA

Patricio Pitbull has a tall task ahead of him at 155 pounds, but he didn't want to fight there in the first place.

The former Bellator Featherweight Champion, Patricio "Pitbull" Friere takes on Ben Henderson in the main event of Bellator 160. Henderson, who is dropping down from a recent loss to Andrey Koreshkov at 170 pounds, is facing Pitbull, who is moving up from 145 pounds. When Fightful.com spoke with Pitbull, he told us that he didn't have any desire to fight at lightweight before the former UFC Champion Henderson was offered.

"The fight makes sense, but before they offered it to me, it wasn't something I wanted. I saw an opportunity for something bigger. Bellator asked me if I'd be up for a superfight with Ben Henderson. I knew if I won, I'd probably get a title shot, but it wasn't something I was looking for," Pitbull told us.

While Pitbull didn't want the move to lightweight, he's not opposed to fighting there again....or featherweight....or bantamweight for that matter.

"Lightweight, Featherweight, Bantamweight. I just care about the challenge." Pitbull said. "Three weight classes, depending on who Bellator puts in front of me. Ben Henderson is on my mind. The only belt I want is the Featherweight Championship. Before, I had a dream of being a multiple weight champion. I want to take Michael Chandler's head off, but the belt doesn't mean that much to me. I want to beat Daniel Straus for the Featherweight title. After that, I might fight at lightweight or bantamweight. The belts aren't something I'm thinking of, but you don't know what the future holds for me."

Bellator 160 takes place tonight from the Honda Center in Los Angeles, California, and airs live on Spike TV.
