Emily Ducote is back in action in just a few short weeks at Bellator 195 and her opponent is going to be the undefeated Kristina Williams.
The female flyweight star hasn’t been in action since losing to flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane at Bellator 186, which is quite the long layoff for someone who wants to stay active.
“Normally I like to fight like every two to three months, but you know obviously that was a big, big fight and we weren’t able to get back in as quick as possible. I think everything happens how its supposed to, so this four month layoff…I’ve not really been relaxed or anything. We have been training this whole time and working on things, so I think its been a good amount of time and March 2nd looks like a good time to be back,” says Ducote in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Ducote has a huge experience advantage over her upcoming opponent in Williams, who burst on the scene by defeating Heather Hardy.
One thing that Ducote has learned with Bellator MMA is to stop wondering just why they book fights the way that they do.
“I learned a long time ago to stop wondering what they’re (Bellator MMA) up to or what they’re doing. I don’t ask for fights and I don’t ask for anything when they offer it, I just wanna fight. And really, with every person you’re matched up against, every person I’ve been matched up against…it’s for a reason and its how you learn. You have to fight everybody and you have to fight every type of fighter, every style of fighter. Everybody I have fought has been different and with that, you get different lessons. Really how I’m looking at it is, there’s another person and I’m gonna do my best, learn from all the mistakes I’ve made in my previous fights and try, like I said and to put the pieces together in this fight on March 2nd. I don’t question it and I’m not wondering what they are doing, I’m sure they got their reasons, but for me its just a fight and we wants to fight as frequently and as much as possible. That means you just got to accept who they give you,” said Ducote.
Bellator 195 takes place on Friday, March 2 from the Winstar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma with Darrion Caldwell and Leandro Higo headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
